Jan 11, 2007 Tonight's Semi Final 6:45 pm - R. Ashour vs. A. Ricketts 7:45 pm - Wael El Hindi vs. D. Palmer What I read from squashsite is simply making me amazed. PSA level of squash becomes more and more competitive. Let's forget that Lincou is not there in Canada. Look who dominates the stage nowadays. Two "old players" from AUS and two "relatively teen" players from EGY. Another shocker is that Shabana's out from competition. Seems like he has lost his claws after Saudi World open... Keep on squashing. P.S. I predict the final to be AUSTRALIANS anyway. I doubt if Ashour is fit enough to get all those matches he has in his muscles...

stevep - Ashour is looking good - he has got 10 years to catch Palmer so imagine the slack he can take up in that time.
The players are getting younger and younger, obviously starting the game very early - maybe when coming out of nappies!
Egypt has had top players as long as I can remember (a jolly long time) so there has to be a reason for their number of highly ranked players.
Not sure he will be consistent enough to take the number one spot this year, but certainly the next year, providing he stays injury free.
Well done Ramy.

Oh well, shows what I know

[6] Ramy Ashour (Egy) bt [2] David Palmer (Aus) 11/7, 11/3, 11/4 (32m)

What price Ramy world #1 by the end of the year?

As much as I'd love to see youth overcome experience in this one, I can't help but feel that Palmer might have the mental strength to take this one.

One thing that should be noted is that Ramy would have spent less time on court than Palmer going into the final (Ramy has played for 208 mins whilst Palmer has put in 201 excluding his 4 game match with Liam Kenny in round 1!).

Given that Ramy will surely recover quicker than Palmer thanks to youth, it could be Palmers mental toughness against Ramy's youthful fitness. I'm afraid that if going to have to fence sit on this one......

Either Ramy 3-2 or Palmer 3-1. Ramy to take the first, Palmer to take the second, and depending on who takes the third makes the result. If Palmer gets it then expect a 3-1 win, and if Ramy gets it then expect Palmer to give it his all in the fourth to take the match do the decider!

We'll see!

Looks like you got your wish.

Palmer to win in four and avenge his HK Open defeat at the hands of Ashour. Thats my prediction anyway.

I'd actually like to see Ashour and Palmer in the final together.

Ramy is quite capable of taking some major scalps these days and if Ricketts fails to find the form he hit against Gaultier then we could be in for an interesting Egy vs Aus final!
