Hi,yes thanks I have viewed the video so the movement of the racquet head is different for both swings,for the vertical swing,the head moves downwards and for the horizontal it moves across?I guess its also important to cock your wrist in both swings.But power can be generated from the horizontal swing as the racquet face is flat?

The Squashgame Gold Video Library (see tab above) has a video showing both these techniques for your close examination. 

You will notice the vertical swing happens automatically when a player is too close to the ball, stands too tall, does not bend their knees, does not move their feet into position; the vertical swing can resemble a golf swing and could generate more power, however, control may be lost.  John White often used a vertical swing and could hit the ball at about 170kph which is ok if you have an open space to wack the ball into.  If you want finite control the horizontal would be more effective.
