The players in the sqaush league I play in are keen to look at ways to improve the league, which operates at one of the leisure centres in my town.  One idea is to operate the league across the two leisure centres, as the other centre does not currently operate a league at all.  In addition, it has 2 nice glass backed courts which are in better condition and are well heated, which is vital in this current cold snap over here in the UK.

There seems to be a good level of support for this idea amongst the players, but the leisure centre management is a bit concerned about complicating the upkeep of the manual score board system in terms of having to keep 2 score boards going in tandem.  I think there are ways around this using a manual system still, but doing a bit of online research, I see that there are a variety of online tools for squash league management available.

This seems the obvious answer as it would centralise the scoreboard in one place and keep the onus on the players to keep scores up to date.  It would also allow league positions to be calculated automatically and in real time, plus make the management's job easier when closing a league down and starting a new one.  It would also provide a handy player database with full contact details and hopefully faciliate more and easier player to player contact.

One online resource in particular would seem to fit the bill at first glance - www.in-zone.co.uk.  One particularly attractive feature is that it says it is free, although this always arouses suspicions in me!  Does anyone have any experience of using this product, or could anyone recommend any other product that they have used successfully in their league or club?

Cheers

Jimbob

www.freeonlineleague.com/ now offers a free ladder module with a fantastic social side to the site.

They have a few videos on their home page to show how simple it is to create a ladder.

Hi Jimbob,

If you could email me, I'll send you through the details (don't want to post them publically).

But the club is the Henley squash club, so you can look at their ez-leagues pages and see how active they are...

Yours.

John.

Hi Jimbob,

May I recomend 'easy leagues' - www.ez-leagues.co.uk.

With this system, you can have ladders, leagues, or both, as many of each as you like...

It is designed for the players to enter all their results directly, with an administrator to oversee the system.

I can supply you with a contact for a club that is using the system if you like.

Please feel free to contact me if you require any help/advice - I am the owner of the system.

Yours,

John.

Cheers Demo - I'll tale a look at Gigasports and inform the leisure centre management about it.  Weiran, if you do develop something, let me know!

I have forwarded details of In Zone to them as an example of what is available and I am just waiting to hear back.  It has got to be the way to go.  Aside from all the other benefits, it must take the league administrator quite some time at present to end a league and then start a new one.

The players seem really keen on the idea of extending the league over the 2 venues, so I hope the leisure centre management see the benefits and agree to the idea.

Cheers

Jimbob

Does anyone know of a good computerised ladder management system?  The type that has challenege someone x levels above you and then winner takes that place, anyone below moves down, it would need to be administrator indipendent so the players themselves input the data, no need for an overseer.

Being a web developer, this would be quite an interesting project for myself. I'll look into it and if I produce anything viable I'll let you guys know.

 Hey Jimbob,

Several different clubs here use Gigasports. There is a fee involved, and you would have to contact them for pricing:

http://www.gigasports.com/en/default2.html

At my club, it is used to manage the bookings for courts, the challenge ladder, box ladder, and member monthly statements. Members enter the scorecards on their own. It permits players to enter contact info, and as such facilitates players contacting each other for friendly matches or ladder matches.

There is plenty of information available on their website. You'll find a bunch of clubs listed in the Customer reviews section, mine among them. Although they all look like North American clubs, it does say that Gigasports is available in different languages.

Good luck!
