"Brown beats Perry to make US Open final -  

Australia’s Kasey Brown reached the final of the US Open in Philadelphia when she beat Ireland’s Madeline Perry in four games in a superb semi-final on Wednesday.

In a match lasting 67 minutes, Brown downed Perry 12-10, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6 to move into the biggest final of her career, where she will play Englishwoman Laura Massaro.

The fifth seeded Massaro upset world number two and fellow countrywoman Jenny Duncalf in straight games 13-11, 11-5, 13-11.

Brown, who defeated world number one Nicol David in the quarter-finals by playing some brilliant squash, started just as strongly against third seeded Perry and opened up an 8-3 lead.

However, the Irishwoman fought back and had a game ball at 10-9, only for Brown to hit three clean winners to take the opening game.

The Irishwoman then took control of the front of the court to level the match at one game apiece.

Both players were hitting the ball with enormous power but Brown had the edge when it mattered, seizing the initiative in both the third and fourth games for a deserved victory.

“I started well then stepped off it a bit in the first and she started to get in front of me, she’s so hard to play if you let her do that,” Brown said.

“I scraped through that one but lost the second as my length dropped off.

“I had to try and get it back in the third, which I did, and when she made three errors in a row in the fourth I said ‘thank god for that’.

“I knew it wasn’t over but I managed to pull clear from there.”

The men’s final will be between England’s world number one Nick Matthew and third seeded Egyptian Amr Shabana.
