It is a good idea to step in and hit the Return of Serve on the Volley. However, especially on the backhand, it seems easier to let it bounce, but then there is a risk of getting trapped in the back corner. Things to help volley the serve:
- Stand forward (not too far from the corner of the serve box) when receiving.
- Keep out of the back corner.
- Watch the Server, to get some early clues to the type of serve, and angle of the ball.
- Have the racket in a "ready" position.
- Turn the shoulders to face the side wall, and the racket will follow in preparation for the shot.
